Session: Approaches to AI Adoption on Campus: Two Case Studies

As demand for AI grows, IT leaders are being asked to take the lead on projects that may not have clear roadmaps, consensus, or long-standing precedents.
This session will provide institutions with roadmaps and precedents for AI adoption on campus. It will begin by framing the AI landscape, and then two institutional leaders—CIO Mimi Royston (from American International College) and Director of IT Matt Sullivan (Tennessee Wesleyan University) —will share how their institutions are navigating AI adoption. Mimi will begin by explaining AIC’s “start small and scale” approach, which began by implementing an AI Chatbot to build on measurable wins. Matt will follow up by explaining Tennessee Wesleyan’s multi-committee approach to ensuring governance, policy-making, and cross-departmental alignment.
